Little Contact

I told Jim I'd do this so I'm doing it. I mentioned to him before he took me to the airport that I would make a blog to keep everyone up to date at the same time. Before I left I had to remember to tell Marc, Courtney, Dan, Mom, dad, Amanda, all my friends, and whomever else I forgot to list what was going on with me, where I was going, what were my plans, how long I was planning on staying in Chile, yadda yadda. I decided this would be the best way to keep in touch with everyone after I left.

For those who are unaware, I left the US to Chile because Cristina started Chemotherapy due to her cancer deciding it wanted to continue paying rent for a bit longer. So instead of the original plan to leave Germany so we can study and live together, I left on the 30th of July to be with her and help her through her treatments.

Let's do a quick rundown of the events that happened since I arrived in Santiago. I got off the airplane and spent the usual half-hour getting through immigration, no problems there. Went to the baggage claim and found my bags, but the zipper on front pouch of my main luggage was peculiarly missing, more on that later. Took my baggage through the main gate and squeezed my way through the crowd of hungry taxi drivers just waiting to overcharge naive travelers to take them to their destination. I found Cristina, Cristina's mother and we started driving North until Cristina realized we were going the wrong way, and turned around and took us home.

Cristina was there watching TV in her mom's room while waiting for me to get there and she was very happy to see me again, the feeling was mutual. That day we didn't do too much other than catch up and get my things unpacked. When unpacking I noticed two love letters from the TSA slipped into my baggage saying, "Hey! Sorry we broke your luggage! We're glad we were wrong to think you were a terrorist!." The days following we've organized her room to compensate for my clothes and the few things I brought with me, visited the hospital to get Cristina's blood exam taken, I submitted my final research paper for my last class, and just spent time together and got all settled in.

Today we visited the hospital again so Cristina could get a scan done. Just now we got the results from it, and it turns out that her chemotherapy hasn't been working very well so they'll need to switch the drugs she's on. She's very discouraged right now so we're trying to keep her confidence up. She's tough, really tough, and she's got a lot of spunk so I'm very optimistic about the end-result from the Chemo.

Oh before I end this post. Someone keep in touch with grandma on behalf of me, okay? I'm sure she'll be wondering what's going on.
